A step-by-step guide to installing the Vanquish Yeti/RR10 Motor Cam and dialing in motor mesh and alignment on Axial Yeti and RR10 Bomber builds.
Quick answer
Install the Vanquish Yeti/RR10 Motor Cam on a compatible Incision or Vanquish Yeti/RR10 motor plate, then set gear mesh by rotating the cam before tightening the M3 screws. Check alignment and mesh before every run.
Why the motor cam matters for RR10 drivetrain setup
The motor cam is the small aluminum piece that lets you pivot the motor to set gear mesh without slotted mounts. On Axial Yeti and RR10 Bomber builds, a worn or flexing cam can let the motor shift under load, which shows up as inconsistent mesh, noise, or premature spur wear.
The Vanquish black anodized cam is a direct replacement for compatible Incision and Vanquish motor plates. It is not a universal fit: check your motor plate part number before ordering.
Compatibility check before you start
This cam works with Incision Yeti/RR10 motor plates IRC00151 and IRC00153, and with Vanquish Yeti/RR10 motor plates VPS07991 and VPS07993. If your plate has a different number, the cam may not index correctly or may not clear the chassis.
Also confirm your motor can is not oversized; the cam provides a fixed pivot point, so a larger can may limit adjustment range.
Step-by-step motor cam install and adjustment
- Remove the old cam and clean the plate: Take out the two motor screws and the old cam. Clean any Loctite residue or grit from the motor plate mating surface so the new cam sits flat. A cam that rocks on debris will not hold mesh; check for flatness before assembly.
- Mount the new cam to the motor plate: Place the Vanquish cam on the plate and start the two supplied M3x10 SHCS by hand. Do not tighten yet; the cam must rotate freely for adjustment. If the screws bind, stop and check thread condition rather than forcing them.
- Set rough gear mesh: Slide the motor into position so the pinion contacts the spur with a small amount of backlash. Rotate the cam to take up slack, then snug the screws just enough to hold position. A paper strip between pinion and spur can help set backlash; remove it before final tightening.
- Fine-tune alignment and tighten: Check that the pinion and spur are parallel and fully engaged. Adjust the cam in small increments until backlash is minimal but present, then tighten both M3 screws evenly. Over-tightening one screw first can tilt the cam; tighten in a cross pattern.
- Verify mesh by hand and under power: Rotate the spur by hand through a full revolution to feel for tight spots. Then run the motor at low speed and listen for whine or clicking before driving. Any new noise after install usually means mesh is too tight or the cam moved; readjust before running.
